Add sales tax to a price, or take it out of a total. Type your rate, down to 3 decimals, and see the tax and the total straight away. No ZIP code, no sign-up.
This calculator needs JavaScript to run. The sum is simple: to add sales tax, multiply the price by the rate and divide by 100. For example, $100 at 8.25% is $8.25 of tax, so the total is $108.25.

Rounded to the nearest cent. This works out sales tax on one amount. It is not tax advice.
This calculator does not look up rates by address, so the result is only as right as the rate you type.
To add sales tax, multiply the price by the rate and divide by 100. $100 at 8.25% is $8.25 of tax, so the total is $108.25.
Or multiply the price by 1.0825 in one step. Two numbers in, one total out.
To find the price before tax, divide the total by 1 plus the rate. $108.25 at 8.25% divided by 1.0825 is $100.00, so the tax was $8.25.
Taking 8.25% off the total gives the wrong answer: $108.25 minus 8.25% is $99.32, not $100.00.

To calculate sales tax, multiply the price by the tax rate and divide by 100. For a $50 price at 7%, the tax is $3.50 and the total is $53.50.
To take sales tax out of a total, divide the total by 1 plus the rate as a decimal. A $106.00 total at 6% is $106.00 ÷ 1.06 = $100.00 before tax, so the tax is $6.00.
To add 8.25% sales tax, multiply the price by 1.0825. A $19.99 item becomes $21.64, with $1.65 of tax.
