GST/HST Calculator Canada

Choose your province or territory, add sales tax to a price or remove it from a total, and see GST or HST and PST or QST separately.

This calculator needs JavaScript to run. The sum is simple: multiply the price before tax by the rate for your province. For example, in Ontario HST is 13%, so $100 plus HST is $113.

How to calculate HST

To calculate HST, multiply the price before tax by the HST rate of the province and divide by 100. In Ontario the rate is 13%, so HST on $100 is $13 and the total is $113.

To remove HST from a total, divide it by 1 plus the rate: $113 ÷ 1.13 is $100 in Ontario. In the calculator above, choose the province, then Add tax or Remove tax.

GST, HST and PST: what is the difference

HST is a single sales tax charged in Ontario, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. The other provinces and territories charge 5% GST, and British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Quebec add a separate PST or QST.

In this calculator, PST and QST are worked out on the price before GST, and the result shows each tax on its own line. It uses the general rate of each province; some items are taxed at different rates or exempt.

HST calculator FAQ

How do I calculate HST?

Multiply the price before tax by the HST rate of the province and divide by 100. In Ontario the rate is 13%, so HST on $100 is $13 and the total is $113.

What are the HST rates?

HST is 13% in Ontario, 14% in Nova Scotia and 15% in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island. The other provinces and territories charge 5% GST, and some of them add PST or QST.

How do I calculate HST in Ontario?

Choose Ontario (HST 13%) in the calculator. To add HST, multiply the price by 1.13, so $100 becomes $113. To remove it, divide the total by 1.13, so $113 includes $13 HST.

How do I calculate GST and PST in British Columbia?

In British Columbia, GST is 5% and PST is 7%, both worked out on the price before tax. On $100 that is $5 GST and $7 PST, so the total is $112.

What is the HST rate in Nova Scotia?

The HST rate in Nova Scotia is 14% from 1 April 2025. On $100 that is $14 HST, so the total is $114.

Which rate applies to my sale?

The rate depends on the province or territory where the sale is made, not on where your business is based. This calculator uses the general rate for the province you choose, and some items are taxed at different rates or exempt, so check the CRA rules for your sale.
